HONDA AUSTRALIA - VICTORIAN QUAD CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The 1st Victorian Quad Championships were held at the Maffra Sale track in Newry and once again the club put on a brilliant track for riding.
The Maffra Sale Club along with the QRCV put in some long hours of preparation and the weekend proved a huge success for all that attended.

Riders from Western Australian, Darwin, South Australia, NSW and the ACT joined in with the Victorian riders to see who could rule the roost. With all states in attendance it confirmed the weekend one to be remembered.

The Pro Riders had a taste of the 20 min motos showing who was fit and who wasn’t. In the 1st moto, the first corner saw all riders going through clear with Western Australian rider Anthony Yewers taking the 1st hole shot and Local Victorian Suzuki rider Paul Smith hot on his heels.
With the 1st lap taking 2 min 40 seconds it was clear that the race was in full swing and all riders in hot pursuit of the 1st place trophy.
Smith never giving up the chase kept pulling in Yewers eventually to take the lead just before Corner 7 in lap 2. Victorian rider Anthony Dellios had the ride of his life keeping 3rd place for 3 laps only to be passed by WA rider Ryan Lancaster.
2006 Australian Champion Chris Brenton decided to go bush whilst trying to pass NSW rider Paul Worth relegating him back to last. With a lot of racing ahead of him Brenton managed to reel in the rest of the field finishing 6th place.

WA rider Ryan Lancaster proved the one to beat all weekend leaving the rest of the field behind. In the last moto for the day Lancaster was ahead of the rest of the field over 1 min 30 sec. The whoops also gave the riders a lot to think about keeping riders focussed whilst getting crossed up.

NSW rider Paul Worth and Victorian Rider Aaron Ovens kept the crowd entertained with plenty of spectacular racing. Whilst having their own battle out on the track the 2 riders swapped positions all weekend finally giving Worth an overall 2nd place which he was pretty happy with leaving Ovens to suck it up and take home 4th.

Geoff Taylor Victorian rider Adam Siemensma had bad luck all weekend having a DNF in moto 2 along with Barry Francis Suzuki rider Paul Smith having a DNF in the 3rd moto. Both riders have ensured us they will be back in full force for the Australian Nationals in November.

Overall WA rider Ryan Lancster took home 1st place with 5 straight wins, 2nd went to NSW Paul Worth on a count back to WA rider Chris Brenton taking home 3rd.

The Infamous Jumbo Juniors was the race also to watch. South Australian rider Darrell Knight commonly known as Bullet was on a mission right from the start showing great skill going through the whoops. Known for his Finke ride and helmet not having a peak he was a force to be reckoned with. Local Maffra rider Josh Ross having his 1st ride on his jumbo junior was also quick, putting up a challenge to all other riders. Old timer Rob Van Vliet managed to pull off a holeshot only to find Bullet right behind him. Phil Ede also demonstrated that he was not to be overlooked with tight racing all weekend between the field.
Overall 1st place went to well deserved rider Darrell Knight, 2nd to NSW rider Peter Middleton and bring in 3rd was Local rider young Josh Ross.

A changing of the guard has finally occurred in the Women’s race with Patricia Bartley giving Jeanette Lindsay an eye opener taking the holeshot in 3 of the 5 motos. Bartley went out wide in the soft dirt only to allow Lindsay to pull her in but Bartley never gave up holding onto first place. On the second day Bartley was a bit nervous commenting
“ I have only ridden in the rain once” Lindsay took the 1st 2 holeshots obviously loving the conditions leaving Bartley to struggle behind. Local riders Vicky Eden and Natalie Ross also had their own battle out on the track swapping positions all weekend.
Overall Bartley saw it through pulling in a first for the last moto giving her an overall win for the weekend. Lindsay coming in a close 2nd with Ross taking home 3rd place on a count back to Eden.

The Juniors gave the crowd some spectacular racing with Young Blaster rider Mitch Van Vliet completing 5 straight wins keeping up with the legendary pro rider Lancaster with his 5 straight wins. Van Vliet stated “ I am always watching the Pro riders, seeing what lines they take and how they race. I try to do the same and it has paid off big time. I’m also concentrating on my fitness” Jonothan Wade along with Adam Larson and NSW rider Luke Nixon never gave up only for Nixon having a bit of bad luck giving him a dnf which put him out of contention. Van Vliet took home 1st place convincingly with Wade in 2nd and Larson coming in a close 3rd.
An upset amongst the local Junior 90 cc riders took place with lots of DNF’s. Darwin Cobra rider Lachlan Stone made his long trip worth while taking home 1st place with his 5 straight wins. Ben Wade had a good 2 days leaving him with 2nd and NSW rider Daniel Middleton had 3rd.
All riders are pumped for the Nationals in November.

Vets was the biggest class for the weekend and was one to watch especially in corner 3 which proved slippery taking out quite a few riders. Most riders took the wide line around this corner only to lose a lot of ground however if you took the inside line you got bogged. The Rhythm section after corner 12 also proved who had rhythm and who didn’t allowing the riders who did to increase their lead.

Expert class also had their ups and downs with Local rider Jay Chandler putting on quite an exhibition with his skills. Having spun out in most motos Jay put up the challenge going through the whoops to pass 3 riders. Josh Ross also had bad luck throwing a chain in the 1st moto to give him a DNF. Cameron Wade kept his consistency only for the last moto where he had a big get off. Throwing his quad upright he managed to get back on and finish the race.
Chandler ended up with 1st place for the weekend, Wade bringing home 2nd and Robert Booth with 3rd.

The riders saw the weekend throwing all kinds of weather conditions at them and the consistent riders came through the best. The Nationals in November is certainly going to be an event to watch to see who can throw out the challenge to the victorious riders.
