ATV’s CARVE IT UP AT WARRNAMBOOL

With the Warrnambool track in pristine condition it was hard not to enjoy the brilliant and dazzling performances of all the riders.

The day set off with the Pro riders showing their skill and agility in all 3 motos. South Australian Honda rider Daryl Watson proved a force to be contended with taking off the holeshot in 2 of the motos.
Watson kept the lead for the 1st lap in the 15-minute moto only to get passed by Suzuki rider Aaron Ovens and Yamaha rider Anthony Dellios in the whoops. Not to be outdone Barry Francis Suzuki rider Paul Smith took a tremendous leap in the 2nd set of whoops to take the lead and hold it for the entire race. Unfortunate for Geoff Taylors Yamaha rider Adam Siemensma, mechanical problems put an end to his race calling a DNF. It was good to see both Shaun Barry and Brett Clissold having a race of their own.

In the second moto Ovens took a huge lead with Siemensma giving chase. Ovens had a massive get off over the huge step down relegating him to last giving Siemensma the lead and Smith having to give chase. Smith eventually pulled in Siemensma taking the lead but the two talented riders made the gap to the rest of the field even bigger. It was great to see Ovens back on the quad finishing a promising 6th place.

The last moto also saw its crashes with Shaun Barry rolling his quad in the 1st lap and Smith coming off a beauty in the stutters in the 2nd lap giving the rest of the field a chance to get away. Siemensma, having a race of his life took the lead pulling away with Ovens giving chase and Dellios hot on his heels. Siemensma managed to lap a few riders giving him 1st place. Smith managed to get back on his quad with a sore back and finish the race in 5th position

Overall 1st went to Smith, 2nd to Ovens and 3rd to a well-deserved Watson.

The Senior Production Class had a great field with young Suzuki rider Cameron Wade showing the crowd what it was all about having 3 straight wins in 3 motos. Wade took all 3 holeshots with Brendan Gina hot on his tail. Scott McNaught had to step up the pace chasing down a most improved rider Darren Schnoor only to take Schnoor over the stutters. Once again McNaught putting in a huge move on Pat Gleeson over the finishing tabletop took 3rd place convincingly.
Overall Wade took 1st leaving Gina with 2nd and McNaught with 3rd.

Vets put on a show of their own proving their experience with skill and effortlessness ability shining through. The battle was on with Can Am rider and Finke Legend Rick Beer and old timer Yamaha rider Rob Van Vliet. The two talented riders kept swapping the lead with Phil Ede and Jeff Larson hot on their heels. It was great to see Colin Ovens back on his quad although going bush a few times he managed to pull off 6th place. Once again Darren Schnoor showed massive improvement with his ability and new comer Rob Geees put in a huge effort.

The Junior riders are putting the pressure on the senior riders with a few heading toward seniors for next year. Mitch Van Vliet took straight wins once again showing massive jumping ability over the huge tabletops and step-downs. Jonothan Wade and Adam Larson tried closing the gap having great racing between the two. Jake Van Vliet still sore through a previous injury managed to hold onto 5th after having mechanical problems relegating down to a 90cc just so he could ride. Chloe Beer is definitely looking comfortable on her new blaster putting in her best performance.
The 90cc class had its ups and downs with a few breakdowns and get offs. The 50cc class is growing bigger and bigger with new comers putting in excellent performances.

The Women’s Class was most entertaining with Jeanette Lindsay and Vicky Eden having some great starts battling out for the holeshot. In the 2nd moto Eden lost her chain and Rebecca Lindsay passed Nicole Clark to give the Lindsay sisters 1st and 2nd place. In the last moto Jeanette Lindsay had a hard landing on her front wheels through the whoops but still managed to hold her 1st place convincingly. Eden and Rebecca Lindsay had a great race as did Clark and Ainsley Anderson.
Overall 1st place went to Lindsay, Eden with 2nd and Clark with 3rd.

A great day’s racing was had by all, showing that the ATV sport is one of the fastest growing sports in the country.
