2006 Yamaha Victoria ATV MX Super Series 8 - Round 7
Report by TJ Elliott

With the prime object of our riders being ride hard and ride fast, we have all certainly witnessed that being performed at all stages and all ages.
The last month has been fast and furious with the topic of racing being on every ones tongues.

The last 3 races have been on long tracks with Warrnambool proving the most technical. Big thanks go to Paul Smith and the club for putting in a great effort to get the meet happening and pulling off a great day for all to enjoy.

The 50cc, class much to the delight of all the riders, were given the chance to ride the whole track. Jake Gartside took to the lead early on and never gave up holding the lead for all three motos. Close on his heels was Cooper Timbs-Poke with Bonnie McLaren stepping up the pace to come in third. It never ceases to amaze the crowd watching these competitive riders all coming in chatting away about what a great ride they had with those famous big grins we have all come to know.

The entire junior 90cc and 200cc riders are developing their skills with each race. The ultimate jump was preformed by Mitch Van Vliet clearing the enormous step down double with the greatest of ease on his Yamaha Blaster 200cc which I believe has come off second best and back in the work shop to round off his square tyres. Rumour has it that a few of the senior riders have asked for jumping lessons from this young 14-year-old.

Rick Beer lived up to his reputation of putting in hard and racing well with his good all-round ability. Although a little disappointed with his get off Rick still managed to finish the race with pride however was quite sore with shoulder damage and possible cracked ribs.

The Pro class has always had the crowd in raptures and this was no different at Warrnambool. According to the ATV Action magazine “ Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha are the tough guys of the sport quad fraternity in the 450cc bullfight” and with our talented Pro riders aboard these quads, it certainly makes for exciting and entertaining racing. Paul Smith on his home track prevailed with Jye Stokes putting in a great consistent effort coming 2nd followed by Brett Clissold winning 3rd place.

With lots of big get offs at Warrnambool in nearly ever class the points have certainly changed. Adam Siemensma was added to the list of casualties with a huge get off injuring his wrist. As was Amanda Watson in the Women’s race with her get off corking her thigh. Unable to push her quad back over, her Knight in shinning armour scaled the fence, flexed his biceps and put her quad back on all 4 wheels much to her delight. With a wave and a thankyou to John Emanuelli (sorry Daryl you can be her knight in shinning armour another time) Amanda was back on her way to finishing the race. Rob Van Vliets’ quad came off second best with his over zealous attempt at trying to keep up with Rick Beer by taking to the skies over a step up double. Rob stated “ I’m glad it was the quad damaged and not me”.

With the Women’s race becoming bigger and better each race meet, the girls put on some great performances. Vicki Eden, having Gremlins, who breath fire, in her quad at Barrabool (which have all been since been exorcised) opted not to ride due to illness, so will be coming back with lots of vengeance at the next and final round at Toolleen. Sarah-Lynne Wilhelms along with Nicole Clark have opted to race with the Expert class as well and are getting faster and faster at each round. However, Jeanette Lindsay has pulled off the ultimate winning streak so far with straight wins at all rounds of the Super Series.

The Expert and Clubman riders are all proving themselves with close and very competitive racing. In Expert Tait Ovens and James Giroud are the ones to watch as is Paul Volk and Jay Chandler, getting consistent podium finishes in Clubman.

I’m sure everyone has been on the Vic Quad Site checking out their results to see how they have to preform in order to pick up one of those elusive trophies so Ride hard and Ride safe and most importantly have fun.

Goodluck!!!!!!!!
